She's Back!

Back at work, that is. Not 100% better yet, but good enough to drift around here in slow motion and get a few useful things done.

I won't bore you with any more detailed descriptions of my ailment, but I do have to make a correction. I was wrong about the normal range on my blood test. According to my doctor's office, normal iron is anywhere between 30 and 80 units, so my measurement of 15 units is officially "not that bad". Whatever that means.

Anyhoo, mainly right now I'm feeling really grateful to be back at work. Sitting around at home for days on end was starting to drive me bonkers. I was even starting to hate the sight of my bed, after spending so many hours lying in it. That's never happened before. I knew I must be truly going insane when I started hating my bed.

I'm also thrilled to be eating a hot lunch from our building's high-class cafeteria. I had gotten into a rut of nuking a Zoglo's soy-broccoli patty and throwing a sandwich together with hummus on a whole-wheat bagel. It was the least labour-intensive healthy lunch I could come up with. Not bad either, except that after around 10 days in a row the novelty wore off. What I'm eating for lunch today doesn't matter; what matters is that's it's not another freaking Zoglo's patty!

So tell me, what's the longest illness that any of you have ever had to suffer through? Did you ever end up hating your bed?

Me and my bed have always been great friends, but on occasion when I felt the need the couch is also a great friend. (Please don't tell my bed)

My bed and I hate each other but that's all right, we know we're on a temp basis, and one of us has to go. The bed's trying to paralyze me before I have the means to get rid of it forever.

So yeah. I've hated my bed for years.

I don't get sick and when I do it's usually over pretty quickly. A few days. This is good for all as I am a terrible sick person. I'm not nice and constantly complain. I also expect to be waited on hand and foot.

nuking a Zoglo's soy-broccoli patty

that is the least appetizing phrase I have ever read.

Ron: For reals. My couch is the afternoon delight. I cheated on my bed every day while I was sick. Technically there's nothing wrong with that; I never actually promised my bed I wouldn't sleep on other furniture.

darcknyt: It is for that exact reason that my husband refuses to allow a Lazy Boy chair into our home. He fears he would never get up again from such overwhelming comfort.

Jameil: A constant complainer AND expecting to be waited on? Sheesh. I agree: it's a very good thing that you rarely get sick. I think I fall somewhere in the middle. I complain just enough to get my point across, but not enough (hopefully) to annoy that extra special person who I'm hoping will bring me juice and soup and then also wash all the dishes for me.

WIGSF: Like you said before, I eat like a hippie. I'm not much of a hippie otherwise, but give me tofu, seaweed and a dairy-free smoothie and I'll be happy as can be.

Drifting around is good. I like the drift. :D It's a nice way to get back into things at work too.

I cannot imagine hating my bed. When I had the flu last summer, it was short enough that I didn't have time to hate my couch. Hope you didn't/don't tire yourself out at work!!

Well, I'm glad you're feeling better and that you're back! I've been feeling congested for what feels like two months now, but it's more of an on and off allergy/sinus condition that antibiotics can't seem to cure. I haven't been home long enough to hate my bed (I don't know if that'll ever happen). I wish I had more time to lounge in bed, actually.

I'm glad you're on the mend. The worst thing I ever had was meningitis. I was in the hospital for 2 straight weeks, and then mostly bedridden for another month and then I started venturing out, but after about an hour at work, I'd have to head home to sleep again. The couch was my savior.
