Post Number 111

Don't ask me what happened at post 100. I must have had an attack of apathy that day. "Meh, Post 100... everyone has 100 posts. Who cares?" Anyway, celebrating post # 111 is just as good. Hurray! I made it this far!

This also marks my 61st consecutive daily post. I've been daily since December 25, 2007. How much longer can I go on? Only time will tell.

My step-dad is back in town. Good news - he didn't get eaten by alligators. He invited Ken and I out for dinner again, but this time he's not trying to include my mom. That's a relief. I guess the reality of the situation finally sank in.

My mom is still bravely carrying on. She's now comfortable enough on her computer to be sending me e-mails. I can't tell you how shocking it is for me to receive e-mail from my mom. She's not even entirely comfortable operating a DVD player, so it's amazing that she's managed to learn Outlook. I'm proud of her.

Tinker and The Dude (my mom's cats) continue to misbehave in spectacular fashion. Last week one of them climbed up to the shelf that she'd had specially installed to keep her houseplants out of the reach of Bad Kitty Paws, and SMASH! Her favourite ceramic flowerpot was in pieces on the floor. Earth flew everywhere - down the back of a cabinet, and all over her kitchen countertop. It took her ages to tidy up.

Tinker (a.k.a. Stinker, in my books) has developed an oral fixation. He chews everything. He's gnawed through 2 phone cords. He took a chunk of wood off a carved, antique table. The other day she forgot to hide the rubber band from her daily newspaper, and he ate half of it before she realized what was going on. And last night she caught him nibbling at the filler between the wooden slats of her hardwood bedroom floor.

There is food in your dish, Stinker. Eat that, and leave my mom's stuff alone! You're driving her to distraction. Bad cat!

My parents' cats have always loved cat grass - you can usually find the seeds in any pet section at the grocery store. Especially for inside cats, it gives them something they are allowed to chew. Oh, and aluminum foil balls. Who knew they were so exciting?

I am impressed your Mom emails too! My friend's grandparents got a computer and internet when we were in college. He was getting emails from them ALL THE TIME. It was cute to me. :)

It sounds like things with your step-dad are slowly settling down and that is great.

Congrats on the triple 1's!

Good thing your step-dad avoided the threat of alligators ;)

You're doing great with the daily blogging. I tried it during November and was exhausted by the end of the month. And it was a short month.

It is incredible to find emails from our mums. Mine's 80 and started sending emails 2 years ago... she's now got forwarding messages done to a fine art!

Keep up the good blogging work!

Jenski: Thanks! And that's a good idea. Next time I go for a visit I'll bring her some cat grass. :-)

Jameil: Thank you! No, both kitties are equally bad. Stinker chews wood etc, and The Dude sucks on fabric. I think she needs to give those cats a pack of bubble gum to take care of their oral fixation.

Karen: Thanx! And - Yeah, pretty much. Especially cats that aren't allowed outside - they get bored and get into trouble looking to amuse themselves. One day I'll do a post about the cats I had before I moved in with Ken. They were such lovable troublemakers.

R.E.H.: Thank you kindly!

Kate: Thanks! My mom still has a lot to learn about e-mail and computers in general, but I think she's getting more motivated now that she sees it'll bring us closer together. I just taught her a couple of emoticons, and she thought they were great. Wait till she can e-mail photos... There will be no stopping her!

Ugh that and the fact that they just act so superior, is why cat's aren't my favorite pets =)

Congrats to you mom working the email =) In no time she's going to be hooked and your going to have to pry her off the computer =)

You've had a post EVERY day? Wow, puts me to shame. I don't know how many I've done total, but it seems like a lot...

Anyway, congrats on the 111!

Congrats on 111 posts. Maybe you should get the cats some catnip and get them stoned.

Happy 111th!
Those are some bad cats.
The last time I catsat, the cat almost knocked over a six-foot bookcase at 3am. I had to get up and forcibly drag him down so he wouldn't destroy my apartment.
Cats are cute.

Pixie Von Azia: The cats vs. dogs as best pets debate will never end. Some of us are cat people, some are dog people, and some are bi-petual. I've never lived with a dog, so I can only speak for the cat side.

Aric Blue: Thanks! Yup, I've posted every day so far in 2008. I'm not sure if it's something to be proud of, or a compulsion that should be medicated. ;-)

Unsigned: Thank you. :-)

Binky Ink: My mom could probably be more aggressive when she disciplines the cats. She errs on the side of gentleness. It's no surprise that they act wild when they're worked up.

Warped Mind of Ron: Thanks! I'm not sure if catnip would relax them or make them wilder. I guess there's only one way to find out...

Aurora: Thanx! It's lucky for cats that they're cute, or we'd never agree to house and feed them. It's amazing how much destruction can be accomplished by one little cat!

Happy 111th. I know a couple people who have failed blog 365 this month... so i'm like paranoid that i'm going to fail also, lol.

Um, but aren't you excited for February 29th?

Maxie: Oh yeah, baby, our one day off all year! You can bet I'm looking forward to it!!
