Thirsty?

If you ever stay in a hotel room...

If anyone you care about ever stays in a hotel...

If you care about hygiene and common decency...

Brace yourself, and then take a look at this hidden-camera investigation done by an Atlanta local news station.

The mites you'll find in the bed are much worse than glass cleaner on a glass.

I've worked in Hotels for 13 years.....yepp...."ours" came a long way, but I know what goes on in some of them *shudder*

I wonder if it's as bad in Europe. Anyway, no more complaining about the individually wrapped plastic and disposable glasses that have become common.

Thanks a lot! I used to love stayin' at hotels... now it's been tainted.

Kidding... but I will think twice about using their glasses from now on!

whatigotsofar: yes that's something I worry about too!

Spark: this video is so scary. I will definitely be careful of those glasses. Do you know more about where the vid is from?

This video doesn't surprise me, but it's a good thing to remember.

When the Palinode was travelling in Europe, he found an old contact lens and a pubic hair in his bed at a hotel. Blech.

I never use the glasses at a hotel unless they are the disposable ones. I was paranoid even before the video :)

Whatigotsofar: Given my druthers, I'd choose to sleep with bed mites over drinking Windex. Don't ask me to justify that.

Nicole: There are probably more things like that than we care to know about. I'd probably be appalled at the kitchens in some of the restaurants I frequent. Ignorance is bliss,

Keera: Yeah, you won't catch me complaining either. Sometimes disposable is the way to go.

R.E.H.: Swanky hotels can be a nice treat. It would be nicer if one could trust them to be hygienic.

Aurora: Unfortunately I don't have any more info on the source. The link was forwarded to me by the real estate agent who got us our condo.

Schmutzie: That's nasty. I could live with a stray contact lens, but there is no such thing as an acceptable pubic hair, once said hair has become detached from its source.

Ron: Is it paranoia if it was justified? You can redefine your caution as "having good judgement", in this new light.

Eeesh! I travel several times a year, and I always assume that my room has only a veneer of sanitization. I treat every surface as if it contains harmful chemicals and bacteria. The only thing I try to ignore is the bed and pillows, since I have no choice.

The Ex: Yup.

Unsigned: Indeed.

Angry Lab Rat: Good for you. I guess, being a lab rat, you have a better appreciation than most for the possibilities of invisible traces of bad stuff on supposedly clean surfaces. Even though the beds are probably pretty icky, you probably couldn't catch anything serious from them, as long as you wear p.j.'s.

I'm not surprised. Disgusted, yes, but not surprised. It's gotten so I don't watch the findings on hotels anymore. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep in one.
