My Kind of Fast Food

When I'm too lazy to cook, my fallback is the noodle joint around the corner. You can get a bowl of wontons, noodles and broth there for an even $4. A plate of mystery "veggie" with oyster sauce is $2. That's all it says on the menu: "veggie". It's some type of dark, leafy green.

Beside the dirt cheap menu, the coolest thing about the restaurant is the hot-water dispenser built into each table. There's a little spout that sticks out of the tabletop. Press a plastic lever, and you can fill your teacup as many times as you like. You get one free tea bag and a plastic, Asian-style tea cup as part of your place setting.

This means that the tables are immobile, since each one has plumbing running up the central supporting leg. It's a good thing, actually. The tables are always perfectly spaced and lined up, and none of them wobbles.

The building is owned or leased by a young couple. He runs the restaurant; she's an optician and sells glasses from the second floor. Last time I spoke to him, their second child was due to arrive anytime. That's probably why he wasn't there last night. I hope he has baby pictures to show off next time I'm there.

What's your fallback when you're too lazy or busy to cook?

That place sounds pretty cool. My backup is having a pizza delivered, heck my original plan is pizza delivered.

I wish we had a fun noodle place so close. We'd have to drive to Harvard for that- not far, but not suitable for the times you need something FAST. We usually go to the pizza place down the road and split a salad and small pizza.

I have a Little Ceasars across the street =) How weird that the other comments also prefer to have pizza when one doesn't want to cook. I may have a little ceasars across the street but that can get pretty boring real fast so usually 2nd choice Taco Bell Yum!!

There's a place near me that has great Pho. It's a Vietnamese rice noodle soup. Very tasty!

Warped Mind of Ron: Mmm... pizza. I like it although I can't eat cheese, so I have to order it cheeseless. It was only a problem one time when I thought chick peas would be a cool gourmet topping to add. Without cheese glue, all the chick peas rolled off.

Nancypearlwannabe: It's bad when you're already hungry when you realize that there's nothing to eat at home. Then you're really restricted to your own neighbourhood for the sake of eating Right Now!

Jameil: That reminds me - I had fries with my dinner last night. I picked the nicest one and dedicated it to you. ;-)

Pixie Von Azia: Taco Bell is always tasty, although I feel I'm taking my life into my hands when I eat there. I know a guy who used to get food poisoning at his local franchise on a regular basis. Apparently he felt that it was worth it, and ate there anyway.

Unsigned: Mmmm... I love Pho! :-)

Cook? What's that? I eat out 95% of the week. My wife cooks the other 5%--not her fault. My diet and timing is very strange.
(and for the record: Wendy's, Taco Bell, Sbarro's, and Burger King--though I don't live at BK like I used to)

Now that is a great idea. I'd be going there all the time. I love the idea of an unending source of hot water.

My fallback is frozen pizza - because I have a 15-yr.-old son. It works. I usually make him eat broccoli with the pizza though ... cruel, huh?

Leftovers! Or ferrero rocher, whichever is nearer to hand. Luckily the F.R. are slightly farther away from my desk than the fridge is.

Pizza or McDonald's. Not much to choose from around here, so that's got to be it.

Or, sometimes, I can grab a hot dog or burger at a Sibylla (which is a Swedish phenomenon, that sells hamburgers, hot dogs and the occasional kebab).

I'm the typical round bachelor. I'm almost always to lazy to cook, and when I do cook, its often just throw some chicken in the oven.
My takeout place is the closest fried chicken shack.

There's a great Chinese place when I feel like buying. Otherwise, it's a quick eggs-for-dinner or a quesadilla - one fry pan, 5 minutes. I love the idea of having a hot water dispenser in the table!

I want that now! I usually grab a slice of pizza when I am lazy. Or grab a sandwich from the deli.

Pho Bo Vein.

I finally found a joint in my redneck area that is Vietnamese run, and their shit is goooooooooood.

Aric Blue: Cooking is kind of a pain in the butt, and the less you do it, the more trouble it seems, by comparison. It's not only the cooking - there's also shopping and washing up... sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Kate: Broccoli with pizza? Oh yeah, your son must think you're a monster! ;-)

Aurora: Leftovers are always a good option, when they're available. Some things taste better after a night in the fridge. But then again it's too easy to eat it all at once and then, no leftovers. :-(

R.E.H.: I love fast-food burgers - those little ones that are flat as pancakes. It's a mixed blessing that the McDonald's and the Burger King that were in my neighbourhood both closed within the past year, or I'd probably eat too many burgers.

whatigotsofar: Fried chicken... yum! Are you referring to Popeye's, or is there a mom and pop chicken shack near you?

Jenski: Eggs are great for a quick hot meal. Chinese is also a treat. I love the Americanized stuff with the red, glossy sauces. And the fortune cookies.

Karen: You're the first one to mention sandwiches. That's actually one of my go-to's for something to eat at home without actually cooking. It only requires assembly. Hot sandwiches are also awesome.

Stewie: I could eat pho every day and be completely happy. Do they give you fresh basil? I love the fresh basil.

I am getting so hungry right now...

Popeye's is my first choice. Mary Brown's in my second choice.
